Spider mites

These animals, which are around half a millimeter in size, are more common in dry summers. They and their larvae suck the sap from the leaves. The penetration of air results in silvery spots. They draw a dense net over their homes, which severely restricts the further development of the infested buds and shoots.

High humidity in a closed container is an effective antidote. After approx. 3 weeks in this environment, the spider mites are dead. Natural enemies are flower bugs, lacewing larvae, ladybugs, predatory mites, predatory bugs and soft-bodied beetle larvae.
